Genesis Orchestra was formed in 1989 by a group of very talented artists from Pondicherry with the objective of pursuing their passion for music and uphold the spirit of friendship through the popular medium of light music which not only enriches itself with ingredients from traditional Indian cultural bases but also incorporates adaptations from beyond the borders for its continuous Genesis.

Genesis Orchestra had their inaugural performance at Kamban Kalaiarangam on 5th August, 1989 supported by a host of prominent personalities of Pondicherry who became the patrons of the group. The first concert of the group was highly acclaimed by the music community of Pondicherry for the range of multi-lingual songs presented, the proficiency of the artists who were equally adept with Indian classical as with western and modern music and the spirit with which they expressed their love for music. Genesis has successfully rendered many songs which are normally not taken up by most groups due to complexities of the compositions.

Over the years Genesis orchestra has acquired the reputation of a group that is very particular about the quality of their performances, selective about the music they choose to render and constantly seeking to play for a knowledgeable audience who appreciate melodies and with whom they can form a musical bond during their performances.
